League and Foundation Reach Ocean County College First-Year Students Through Reality Fair Program

TOMS RIVER, N.J. – The New Jersey Credit Union Financial Reality Fair program visited Ocean County College Tuesday, reaching 130 first-year students with the award-winning program, which has now been integrated into the college's first-year class curriculum. Volunteers from ABCO FCU, Credit Union of New Jersey, Healthcare Employees FCU, Jersey Shore FCU, Lakehurst Naval FCU, and the New Jersey Credit Union League manned the lifestyle booths and provided financial counseling along with faculty and staff from the school.

Financial Literacy Month kicks off today! While credit union financial education efforts are year-round, this is our month to show the nation the importance of financial education and how credit unions are dedicated to to building a financially literate future for their communities.

Millville Senior High School Students Get a Dose of Reality

MILLVILLE, N.J. – Members 1st of NJ FCU, Bay Atlantic FCU, and Thunderbolt Area FCU teamed up for another successful Reality Fair at Millville Senior High School yesterday! Juniors and seniors received an introduction in the school library before heading down to the gym. Around 235 students visited the lifestyle booths with their budget worksheets, testing their budgeting skills. Volunteers from Members 1st of NJ FCU, Bay Atlantic FCU, Thunderbolt Area FCU, Campbell FCU, Jersey Shore FCU, Deepwater Industries FCU, Millville Senior High School Faculty, the New Jersey Credit Union League, and more manned the tables and helped students through the simulation.

April showers bring May flowers…and also a renewed dedication to helping our communities build a stronger financial future. It’s Financial Literacy Month! National Financial Literacy Month is recognized in the United States in April in an effort to highlight the importance of financial literacy and teach Americans how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits. In Credit Union World…it’s Financial Literacy Month every month, of course. So in anticipation of what I like to call a “renewed” dedication to something we’re already doing on a day-to-day basis to help our members and communities, I’ve gathered up five ways you can up your financial literacy game during Financial Literacy Month and beyond!

NJ CU Foundation Hosts its 100th Reality Fair!

Southern Credit Unions Collaborate to Bring Financial Literacy Experience to Millville Memorial High School, Marking a Milestone for the Foundation

MILLVILLE, N.J. – Bay Atlantic FCU, Members 1st of NJ FCU, and Thunderbolt Area FCU teamed up once again to bring the hands-on personal finance experience to Financial Literacy classes at Millville Memorial High School on Wednesday. This marks the 100th Reality Fair the New Jersey Credit Union Foundation (Foundation) has hosted in the state of New Jersey! The program has reached more than 13,600 students throughout the state since the program’s inception in 2010.

NJ CU Financial Reality Fair Program Closes Out the Year with Final Fair of 2018 at Phifer Middle School; Program has Reached Over 1,300 Students This School Year

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The Howard J. Phifer Middle School was the last stop of 2018 for the NJ CU Financial Reality Fair program, which brought the hands-on financial literacy experience to 150 students. The program has reached over 1,300 students across the state so far this school year, with more to come in the spring!

MANALAPAN, N.J. – The New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education (NJCFE), a partner of the New Jersey Credit Union Foundation, held an informative Financial Literacy Roundtable for educators, community organizations, financial institutions, non-profits, and more, on Friday, July 13th. Attendees heard from Crypto Currency experts on risks and rewards in that emerging realm and Rutgers Professor Barbara O’Neill on financial planning after tax cuts and the Job Act.

Visions FCU Brings NJ CU Financial Reality Fair to Randolph High School for Second Year

RANDOLPH, N.J. – Accounting and personal finance classes at Randolph High School received a reality check on Wednesday as they gathered in the school’s library for a financial Reality Fair sponsored by Visions FCU. Volunteers from Visions FCU as well as Credit Union of New Jersey, the New Jersey Credit Union Foundation, Vizo Financial, and XCEL FCU helped man the lifestyle booths and guide students through the simulation.

Rutgers FCU Brings Reality Fair to University's 'Life After Rutgers' Event

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers Federal Credit Union hosted its third Reality Fair at Rutgers University on the college’s Busch Campus on Friday. The Reality Fair was held in conjunction with a special event titled "Life After Rutgers", which included networking, resume assistance, headshots, and professional wardrobe assistance from Macy's. 

Game On! NJ CU Foundation’s 8th Annual Casino Night Fundraiser Was a Sure Bet!

ISELIN, N.J. – The 8th Annual New Jersey Credit Union Foundation Casino Night fundraiser on March 22nd brought together credit union industry leaders, volunteers, and friends from around the state for a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament and casino table games, all for a great cause! The final numbers aren’t yet available, but it looks like the 8th Annual Casino Night was a success for the New Jersey Credit Union Foundation.

New, Lower Cost Established for Financial Reality Fairs; Grants Available to Off-Set Cost

Hands-On Financial Literacy Program Now More Affordable for NJ CUs to Bring to Schools Free of Charge

HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. – The NJ CU Foundation Board gathered recently for a quarterly meeting and to discuss the Reality Fair program. With new materials available for students, the Board established a new, lower cost per student ($12, down from $18) that goes into effect as of August 2017.
