MADISON, Wis. – Credit Union Magazine is celebrating Rock Stars within the credit union movement by recognizing them and their contributions to the movement in a special issue of Credit Union Magazine, out today. Among the Rock Stars is NJCUL’s very own Yvette Segarra, Manager of Special Events/Meeting Planner! XCEL FCU CFO Arlene Bernard is also among those named.
When starting her career at NJCUL 25 years at NJCUL, it didn’t take long for Segarra to embrace credit unions’ people-helping-people philosophy, the article in the special edition explains.
“I love the credit union movement,” she tells the magazine. “The league is part of my life. It’s not just a paycheck.”
The articles goes on to give kudos to Segarra for her best-in-the-business negotiating skills, especially when lining up keynote speakers, the likes of which have included Christopher Gardner of “Pursuit of Happyness” fame and Joe Torre, when he managed the New York Yankees.
“I’m a good negotiator; I give myself credit for that,” Segarra says. “We save a lot of money.”
As for her secret to success, Segarra explains “treating people the way you want to be treated. “If you treat people fairly, it works.”
In nominating XCEL FCU’s CFO Arlene Bernard as a Rock Star, Director of Marketing Tom Quigley describes her as “remarkably cool under pressure and handles the mundane job of accounting with grace and dignity.”
She could be the MVP here,” he continues. “She’s been our most valuable employee.”
Bernard has accomplished a lot in a short time at XCEL Federal. She has improved and ensured timely vendor payments, streamlined the entire accounting department, boosted morale, and skillfully managed the credit union’s relationship with regulators.
“Oh, and she’s a pleasure to work with,” Quigley adds.
