HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. - Filene Research Institute recently released "Interchange Regulation: Implications for Credit Unions" by Professor Adam Levitin and through your membership with the New Jersey Credit Union League, you now have access to download this paper.
In the paper, Levitin builds on his previous research and a special Filene survey to dissect the Dodd-Frank Act and, in particular, the Durbin Amendment affecting debit interchange. The Amendment will push down the approximately $17 billion in debit interchange paid to issuing financial institutions every year. Although certain provisions exempt most credit unions from the harshest effects of the new law, other variables like "multi-homing" and increased consumer options will exert their own pressures on interchange income.
Levitin works to provide ways for credit unions to navigate the changes taking effect.
