WESTAMPTON, N.J. – New Jersey credit unions held their second Financial Reality Fair of the school year on Wednesday, bringing the hands-on financial literacy experience to the Burlington County Special Services School’s Westampton campus.
The Fair was sponsored by ABCO FCU and was made possible by a grant from the National Credit Union Foundation.

A group of over 40 volunteers made up of credit union representatives from ABCO FCU and other credit unions across the state s well as a few retired teachers and rotary club members—members of ABCO FCU—manned the booths at the Fair.
Around 100 special needs students of various grade levels took part in the Fair, which was held in the school gym. After receiving budget worksheets, the students stopped by each booth to make “purchases”, browsing fictional furniture sets, housing options, new and used cars, and more. The students filled in their expenses along the way, and when finished, they calculated their total expenses for the month. Some students were in the green, having a few hundred dollars left over, but some went over their budget.
Students browse the options at the “Lifestyle” booth, purchasing pets, vacations, and concert tickets.
At the very end of the Fair, each student met with a financial counselor to go over their budget worksheet, evaluating where they went right or where they went wrong.
The teachers, faculty, and superintendent of the school were very appreciative of the program and they received nothing but positive feedback from students.
New Jersey credit unions will once again host a Reality Fair at the Burlington County Special School on Monday, March 26th at the school’s Lumberton campus.
