America Saves Week, taking place from February 19-26, 2012, is a nationwide campaign in which a broad coalition of nonprofit, corporate, and government groups helps individuals and families save and build wealth. Through information, advice, and encouragement, America Saves Week assists those who wish to pay down debt, build an emergency fund, save for a home, save for an education, or save for retirement.
Through the America Saves program, individuals can enroll as America Savers. Enrolled savers receive the American Saver newsletter, which offers information on a wide variety of savings topics and the opportunity to connect to other Savers who are achieving their financial goals. America Saves also provides savers with email access to free financial planning advice and, best of all, America Saves motivates savers to discover the peace of mind that accompanies having money in the bank.
New Jersey credit unions can get involved by participating in NJ Saves Week, the state’s extension of America Saves Week organized by the New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education (NJCFE).
The goals for NJ Saves Week is to create an awareness in New Jersey of personal finance topics, especially the need for regular savings; encourage New Jersey residents to save money and enroll as American Savers; increase visibility for the New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education and its member organizations; and establish a New Jersey Saves Week Web site, linked to the America Saves site, for ongoing savings promotion in New Jersey.
