Federation Offers CU Toolkit to Help Members Avoid Foreclosure, Available to League Members

In tough times, members often turn to their credit unions as trusted financial partners and advisors. As a HUD-Approved National Housing Counseling Intermediary, the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions (the Federation) compiled a toolkit as a starting point for credit unions that wish to help their members to avoid foreclosure and achieve sustainable housing solutions. This toolkit contains basic information that can help members who may be at risk of foreclosure to take positive steps and achieve the best possible outcome.

The New Jersey Credit Union League has teamed up with Federation to make this toolkit available to member credit unions. The toolkit, which includes resources and materials for credit unions to use in order to stop scams, inform members, train staff, and develop partners, is available on the League Web site here.

The Federation has assembled a package of full-color flyers, in English and Spanish, with clear information to help your members avoid foreclosure rescue scams.

Also available in the toolkit is Loan Scam Alert materials, a PowerPoint presentation to loop in credit union lobbies, and a presentation to inform and train staff. Credit unions will also find information on how to find HUD-approved housing counseling agencies in their area and a PowerPoint presentation on how to develop a partnership with these agencies.
