CUAid Grants for Hurricane Sandy Relief Presented to N.J. CUs

The New Jersey Credit Union League has begun to deliver National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) CUAid grant checks for Hurricane Sandy relief to credit unions across the state.

Angel Santos, Business Consultant for NJCUL, and Ann South, President/CEO of Novartis FCU and NJ Credit Union Foundation Chairman, presented Althea Rankins, Member Service Representative at Novartis FCU, a check for $1,500 from CUAid.

Rankins’ home was severely flooded during the hurricane. In addition to the grant, Novartis FCU’s Board of Directors presented her with a $500 gift card from Home Depot to help assist in the repairs.

Santos also delivered checks to Raritan Bay FCU and IFF Employees FCU this week. 

Santos and Raritan Bay FCU President/CEO Ron Behrens presented a $1,500 check to Collection Coordinator Shannon Gonzalez. Gonzalez lost her home in South Amboy to flooding from the storm.

Over at IFF Employees FCU, Santos along with Bryan McMillen, Board Chair, and Jonathan Kaufman, President/CEO, presented $1,500 checks to Beverly Weston, Senior Teller, and Laura Larsen, Operations Manager. Both Weston and Larsen lost their homes in Union Beach; the homes were deemed uninhabitable.

Jersey Shore FCU presented checks to both an employee and member.

Jersey Shore FCU President/CEO Virginia Williams presented a check for $1,500 to Operations Specialist Mary Furry who experienced major structural damage to her home due to the storm. 

Jersey Shore FCU Regional Manager Bruce Matus presented a check to member Robert Polillo, whose home suffered structural damage, with a check for $1,500.

The Foundation has received over 200 applications for assistance and will continue to process and disburse these grants throughout the coming weeks.
