Articles 3 and 4 of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and Federal Reserve Regulation CC govern:

  • Checks, drafts, and other negotiable instruments
  • The relationship between a financial institution and its accountholders
  • The relationship between financial institutions participating in the check clearing process

Do you understand these laws and how they dictate the credit union’s daily transactions? This session is designed to teach the laws and regulations that govern negotiable instruments in a down-to-earth fashion by taking very complex laws and presenting them in simple terms.

This informative session will be beneficial for tellers, attorneys, back office personnel, call center staff, branch administration, branch managers, new account representatives, and the fraud/security departments.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER – Paul Carrubba, JD, Adams and Reese, LLP
Paul Carrubba is a partner in the law firm of Adams and Reese LLP. His primary focus is on payment system laws/regulations and operations issues. A frequent speaker at industry events, vendor conferences, and webinars, Paul serves as a litigation consultant and expert witness on banking procedures.

Paul started his banking career at Deposit Guaranty National Bank in Jackson, MS, where he worked for 20+ years. During that time, he was senior VP and operations manager, served as Southern Financial Exchange board chairman, was a member NACHA’s executive committee and board, as well as other executive positions. Paul has authored five books including: Revised UCC Article 3 and 4; A Banker’s Guide to Checks; Principles of Banking; and Remote Deposit Capture Practical Considerations.
